Small Space Decorating Ideas – Tiny Apartment Ideas

Make the 500 sqft studio work for you

Not gonna lie, when your living room is about the same size as a kingsized mattress, finding a good furniture layout can feel trickier than completing a 9000-piece puzzle blindfolded.

But we’ve been there and we’re here to help!

Here are some of our top tips for working with a tiny apartment.

Think outside the box when it comes to sofas.

Yeah, you'd think a sectional would be too much for a cramped room. But a chaise sectional can actually be your BFF here.

It gives you prime lounging real estate without hogging all the floor space. Just watch the length and give it some breathing room. Oh, and curved pieces are your friend too - they create an airy vibe while still being functional.

Break up areas with furniture placing.

When you're working with an open-concept layout, you gotta get strategic about dividing that space up.

Position your sofa as the centerpiece facing the TV or fireplace, then use some chairs to create an invisible wall separating the living area from the kitchen or dining area.

Simple, but genius.

Make your bookshelf the star of the room.

Not feeling the whole TV focal point thing? No worries. Make your bookcase the star of the show by angling the sofa right at those shelves. Throw in a couple of accent chairs across from the couch, facing it, to really drive home that library vibe.

The key is keeping everything scaled down without going too tiny.

So small it could be a closet?

Okay, if your living room legit feels like a closet under the stairs, it's time to strip it down.

Stick with one really great statement sofa as the focal point, and use a plush oversized ottoman for extra seating when company comes over. Springing for a large area rug that fills most of the floor can also fake a more spacious feel.

Finding cool, unique pieces to give your small space a huge personality without breaking the bank can be tough.
